My mother was T2 diabetic and it’s really difficult to have cakes and so on because they are not only sweet but have a high Glycemic Index because of the starch.

There are some recipes around which use granular artificial sweeteners such as Splenda, or which use the commercial half-half sugar/sweetener (can’t remember the brand, but the Co Op sell it). Desserts good for diabetics However, these don’t come out quite succesfully due to the sweetener affecting the texture. Strawberry desserts for diabetics They are worth trying for a special occasion though.

But I’d say that the best advice is to just make a normal plain or chocolate sponge and don’t ice or fill it. Birthday desserts for diabetics Fruit cakes are bad because of the high concentration of dried fruits and the resulting high sugar content. If you go to a health food store, you would be able to get jelly crystals made with artificial sweetener, which are suitable for diabetics and which are labelled as such. Indian desserts for diabetics They aren’t very dear, and once made up they’re practically identical in taste to ordinary jelly – I find them a bit over-sweet, and because they’re set with agar not gelatine they aren’t quite as firm, but most people won’t spot the difference unless they are told.

The best thing to do, if your mother’s diabetes is treated by tablets and she does regular blood tests, is just to make ordinary desserts and for her to just have a very small portion. Despite various researches done and precautions taken, one cannot predict who will suffer from diabetes. What desserts are good for diabetics Depending on the type and severity, every diabetic patient should be given medications.

I am a diabetic with type 1 and type 2 tendencies. Recipes for sugar free desserts for diabetics I have never been a pudding person but having just had 5 teeth out I have to eat soft and I have to eat something!

This is one I have adapted, an old, old recipe from my great great grandmother and probably before her.

Take some soft fruits, one sort or mixed, of your choice. Quick and easy desserts for diabetics Remove stalks and put in a saucepan.

Sprinkle canderel or other artificial sweetener (remember the artificial sweeteners are a lot sweeter than sugar, so go careful, you can always add more at a later stage).

Add water – or half and half fruit juice, similar colour to the fruit – though grape juice is an absolute no no for diabetics owing to high fructose content)

Add a cinnamon stick and 4-5 crushed cloves into a small muslin bag for easier removal.

Bring to the boil, then simmer until the fruits are well mashed up.

Remove from heat and then cool until you can put the whole lot – minus the cinnamon and clove bag, into a blender or liquidiser.

Whizz up until smooth – or if you prefer you can keep a bit of texture, but I prefer smooth.

Return to the pan and taste, adjust flavour – a few drops of lemon juice if too sweet.

Add a little potato flour and keep stirring over a low heat to thicken to your desired consistency. What are good desserts for diabetics You could use cornflour but that affects the colour of the finished product.

Serve cold, hot or warm with a dollop of whipped cream or creme fraiche.

Another one – Latvian Apple slice – cakey, fruity and good for a snack with a nice cup of tea.

50 grams butter – broken and dotted over the top before cooking.

Melt the butter or marge in the warm milk and add to the dry ingredients – the way I work out warm is to have 2/3 hot but not boiling milk, plus 1/3 cold.

When risen, kneed and spread dough onto a well greased baking tin.

Arrange sliced apples – you could slice them earlier and keep them in a bit of lemon juice to prevent browning – in neat, slightly over lapping layers over the dough.

Dust liberally with the sweetener/cinnamon mix and bake until risen and golden, soft apples.

Hope this helps. Christmas dessert recipes for diabetics Have more, just no time and being diabetic need to go eat some breakfast despite sore mouth!

Do not go for all these stupid “Diabetic” products. Good dessert recipes for diabetics A, the are expensive and B, they contain high fat content and also the sweetener is used to such a degree that it can cause stomach cramps, bloating and diahhorea.
