The Reagan Elementary School cafeteria was filled with chopping, stirring, seasoning, searing and boiling as students from across Norman Public Schools participated in the Sodexo Future Chef competition Wednesday.

“We have a great bunch of kids, and every year they come out and do amazing things,” said Mark Coulter, NPS food service director.

Coulter has been part of Sodexo Future Chef challenges for the past seven years, though he came to Norman four years ago. Coulter said he has seen the popularity of the program grow over the years, with more students sending in recipes every year.

The kind of recipes tend to be somewhat similar, but Coulter said some annual trends emerge.

Coulter said they don’t try to have one from each grade or each school, though there usually is a mix.
