Premier league predictions week 23 the leader what is a sugar cane

NICK HARRISON: everton can’t break defences down despite all that money they’ve spent so a trip to turf moor will hardly whet the appetite of any toffees fans taking up the offer of free transport to the ground. I wouldn’t bother because there won’t be much on show. 1-0

TOM NORRIS: this won’t be pretty. Burnley are functional, rather than pleasing on the eye, and big sam only knows one way to play. The everton boss could do with a result here. 1-1

DAN HEALD: burnley have lost that winning habit at home, while the toffees under allardyce have looked flat and uninspired.. Expect an attritional contest at turf moor with one goal to settle it. 0-1

NH: not sure whether the foxes should persist with playing mahrez. He’s obviously been distracted by big-money moves yet still he remains their go-to man on the pitch. Puel may have to look elsewhere although this isn’t a bad game for the algerian to strut his stuff. 3-1

TN: it’s a simple formula for puel, get mahrez and vardy fit and firing and they will win more than they lose.Salah mane the duo were snuffed out by stoke last week, but the visit of bournemouth will help them quickly forget that disappointing day. 2-0

DH: bournemouth remain one of the most unpredictable teams in the league but remain a capable attacking force on their day. The foxes have been too reliant on vardy and need goals from elsewhere. 2-2

NH: stoke can’t keep on relying on shaqiri to get them out of trouble while southampton need a result and a performance to get their fans onside at st mary’s. I think they’ll get one. 2-1

TN: where would lambert’s stoke be without shaqiri? He’s been red hot since mark hughes left and a less than impressive southampton side won’t hold many fears. There are signs of a recovery from the saints though. 1-1

DH: paul lambert loves to counter attack away from home but the potters lack pace. That said, they can take a point from the hard to beat, but dull saints. 1-1

NH: the hammers were blown apart by liverpool and although the swans don’t have the riches klopp has, they should have more than enough quality to beat moyes’ boys at the liberty stadium. 2-0

mane firmino

TN: david moyes won’t be too concerned about the defeat at liverpool, but he will be twitchy if the hammers can’t get something here. Swansea have improved, but there is still work to be done. 2-2

DH: A point at the liberty is worth much more against carvalhal’s swans than it was under paul clement. The hammers will need to match the well-drilled and hard-working hosts. 0-0

NH: the terriers will look forward to their day out at wembley stadium where spurs may decide to rest a number of the big-name players with the champions league clash against juve on the horizon. Lamela may be the man to step out of the shadows. 2-0

TN: harry kane was off his game last week but still put away what proved to be the winner, so he will be licking his lips at this one in preparation for the clash with juventus. 4-0

DH: A long overdue rest for kane in midweek should have him primed for the terriers, who picked up a huge win at the hawthorns. Spurs are an altogether sterner proposition though and, blessed with strong and versatile defensive options, should win to nil here. 3-0

last week

NH: watford always seem to recover positively from all their managerial upheavals and they should have no problems battling to a win against a baggies’ side who need more inspiration than pardew is giving them. 2-1

TN: if watford can grind out a home win over everton then they really should have few problems beating the baggies. Defeat could spell the end for pardew. West brom fans might like that. 2-1

DH: the writing’s on the wall for pardew at the hapless baggies. This is the fabled ‘must-win’ game for his side, but watford don’t surrender cheaply at home. 2-2

NH: another gut of goals for home fans to feast on or a dream return to anfield for former boss benitez? You could see both happening but liverpool do seem to have tightened up at the back and an early goal could lead to a few more. 3-1

TN: rafa will want to return to his former home and upset the anfield faithful, but there doesn’t seem much chance of that happening. Salah, mane and firmino will have far too much for newcastle. 3-0

salah mane

DH: rafa’s always guaranteed a hero’s welcome at anfield, but that goodwill will be scant consolation if the reds turn on the style. Klopp has a highly potent attack inspired by the holy trinity of salah, mane and firmino. 4-1

NH: all the pressure’s on arsenal and former spurs favourite hughton would love to get one over on the old enemy. The way brighton are playing at home, a seagulls win is definitely on the cards. 2-1

TN: wenger isn’t worried about his job, but he’s worried about results. Surely the two go hand in hand? Brighton are better at home than they are away, but the gunners will fancy themselves here. 1-2

DH: complacency seems to have well and truly set in at the gunners, but the pressure’s off and I can see them beating an improving brighton side. 1-3

NH: you’d like to see chelsea go to city and put in a performance worthy of their champions tag. But all’s not well at the bridge and aguero, de bruyne and co will help themselves to more goals. 3-1

mane firmino

TN: conte will have a plan, that if for sure. But will that plan be enough to derail city’s unbeaten home record? It’s unlikely. The quality at pep’s disposal is far greater than his opposite number. 2-0

DH: champions league glory is the sole focus for chelsea and I can’t see conte being to disheartened with a defeat at the etihad. It won’t be easy for pep’s men but de bruyne can show his erstwhile employers what they’re missing. 2-0

NH: united’s chance to put in a top display at a palace side, who will be set up for the draw. Lukaku will be key if he gets the supply while sanchez needs to show why he’s world class. 1-2

TN: sanchez enjoyed his last trip to selhurst park with arsenal and with palace’s current problems it’s hard to envisage him not having fun again. 0-2

DH: roy hodgson’s palace have been hamstrung by injuries. United’s pragmatic win over chelsea will instil some much needed confidence and I expect lukaku to fire them to victory here. 0-3
