This weekend Ben and I stocked up on steak and cooked…well…a whole lot of them in order to give you the easiest way to cook steak on the stove top, and in some cases on the stove top + in the oven. Start with the salad dressing – this stuff is liquid gold, people.

Combine extra virgin olive oil, lime juice, soy sauce or gluten-free tamari, fresh garlic and ginger, honey, salt, and pepper in a mason jar or bowl, then shake or whisk to combine. Heat 2 Tablespoons grapeseed oil, or another oil with a high smoke point, in a large, cast iron or heavy bottomed, oven-safe skillet (whew!) over medium-high heat. Now let’s turn our attention to the main event – the steak! I used two 8oz strip steaks (aka New York Strips) about 3/4? thick for this entree salad. Start by trimming the steaks of excess fat. Oven baked salmon with lemon I’d leave it on if I were grilling the steaks or serving them with a side for dinner, but since we’re serving them on top of a beautiful salad I just lop it off at the beginning.

Now, since there is high heat and fat involved here, there will be smoke and splatter. Oven baked salmon fillets Smoke does not always mean something is going wrong. Oven cook salmon fillets Just make sure you have your hood fan on high, and a splatter screen nearby!

I had fairly thin steaks so I was able to cook them through on the stove top. Cooking salmon with skin on If yours are thicker than 1? AND/OR you want your steak cooked to medium – well done, slide the whole skillet into a 400 degree oven for 2-8 minutes to finish cooking through. How to cook salmon with skin on Remember that the steak will continue to cook a bit after you remove it from the oven!

Regardless of if you finish on the stove or in the oven, remove the steaks to a cutting board immediately then let them rest for 7-10 minutes before thinly slicing against the grain (generally this is horizontally down the length of the steak.) If you cut into the steaks too soon, all the juices will run out and you’ll have a hard, grey steak. Grilling salmon with skin on Don’t let this happen to you!

Slide the steak slices over two beds of lettuce then add a plethora of sweet, savory, creamy, and crunchy toppings including dried cherries, candied pecans, goat cheese. • 3 Tablespoons grapeseed oil (or other oil with high heat cooking oil,) divided

• 1/2 teaspoon fresh ginger, microplaned or finely minced (or a pinch of dried ginger)

• Preheat oven to 400 degrees if steak is thicker than 1″ and/or you like your steak medium – well done. Combine all ingredients for salad dressing in a mason jar with a tight-fitting lid or bowl. Cooking frozen salmon fillets Shake or whisk to combine then set aside.

• Rub steaks on both sides with 1 Tablespoon oil then season each side liberally with salt and pepper.

• Heat remaining 2 Tablespoons oil in a large, oven-safe cast iron or heavy bottomed skillet over medium-high heat (7/10 on the heat scale.) Add shallots then fry for 3-5 minutes, or until golden brown, stirring frequently. Baked whole salmon fillet Remove to a paper towel-lined plate to drain then sprinkle with salt and set aside.

• For 3/4″ steaks done to medium-rare: Add steaks to hot skillet then sear for 3 minutes on one side. Recipe for baked salmon fillet Flip then sear for 2 minutes on second side. Cooking salmon fillets in oven Remove steaks to a cutting board then let rest for 7-10 minutes before slicing against the grain.

• For 1″ or thicker steaks done to medium – well done: Add steaks to hot skillet then sear for 3 minutes on one side. Cooking salmon steaks in oven Flip then sear for 2 minutes on second side and then place into oven. How to cook a salmon steak Roast for 2-8 minutes or until desired level of doneness is reached (remember that steaks will continue cooking a bit after removing from oven.) Remove steaks to a cutting board then let rest for 7-10 minutes before slicing against the grain.

• Divide lettuce between two plates then top with half of the sliced steak, candied pecans, dried cherries, and crumbled goat cheese. Baking a salmon fillet Drizzle salad dressing on top then serve.

I love the combo of cherries, pecans and goat cheese but I usually pair it with chicken salads…love this twist! And those crispy shallots and honey lime dressing?
